Short answer

A fake Breguet Classique 7147BR is a counterfeit copy of a solid rose gold dress watch. The genuine 7147BR uses an 18k rose gold case, a fired grand feu enamel dial, and the automatic calibre 502.3. Replicas use gold plated steel or brass, a painted dial, and an Asian movement. Asking prices on replica listings run from about $150 to $1,500. None of them carry a Breguet serial number or Breguet service support.

Genuine reference points

  • Case: 18k rose gold, 40 mm diameter, coin edge caseband, sapphire caseback
  • Dial: white grand feu enamel, small seconds at 5 o'clock, Roman numerals, blued steel Breguet hands
  • Movement: calibre 502.3, automatic, about 45 hours of power reserve
  • Water resistance: 30 m
  • Retail: about $25,000 to $30,000, list prices vary by market and year

Breguet lists the current 7147 specs on its own site. Reference suffixes change with dial and strap variants, so match the full number before you compare two watches.

What the replica gets wrong

  1. Case metal. Plated steel weighs less than gold and shows wear at the lugs where the plating thins. Check for the Au750 stamp and the Swiss assay hallmark inside the caseback.
  2. Dial. Fired enamel has depth and a soft edge at each numeral. Painted replica dials read flat under a loupe and show printed dots at the minute track.
  3. Thickness. Generic movements add 1 to 2 mm. Measure the case with calipers, not by eye.
  4. Movement. The 502.3 has Geneva stripes, polished bevels, and a signed rotor. Replica movements use stamped bridges and printed text.
  5. Engraving. Caseback text on replicas is shallow and laser etched. Breguet engraving is cut and deep.

Price tiers in the counterfeit market

Listing prices cluster in three bands:

  • $150 to $350: quartz or basic automatic, printed dial, plated case
  • $400 to $800: Asian automatic with a decorated rotor, closer case proportions
  • $900 to $1,500: sold as "1:1," cloned bridge shapes, still plated metal

These bands come from public listing data. No tier uses a solid gold case or a fired enamel dial. The raw gold in a 40 mm solid case costs more than the top replica tier.

Legal and import facts, US

Counterfeit watches are prohibited merchandise in the United States. CBP can seize and destroy a shipment, and the importer can face a penalty. Trafficking in goods with a counterfeit mark carries up to 10 years for a first offense under 18 U.S.C. 2320. A personal purchase is a separate question from trafficking, but the watch remains subject to seizure at the border.

Before you compare two watches

Ask for a photo of the caseback hallmark, the movement, and the dial at 10x magnification. Ask for the Breguet service record and the original warranty card. A genuine 7147 has both. A replica has neither, and no watchmaker outside the counterfeit supply chain will stock parts for it.
