Cartier numbering for the Santos

Search terms that pair a brand, a model, and a number spread through forums and video comments. Sellers watch those terms and copy them into listing titles. The number then reads as a product code to the next buyer. Four sources produce these strings:

  1. Marketplace item IDs from the site that hosts the listing.
  2. Warehouse bin labels used by shipping agents in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
  3. Photo album names inside messaging apps.
  4. Batch codes that change between factory runs.

None of these connect to Cartier or to Richemont.

  • Secret signature. Cartier prints a small "Cartier" wordmark inside one numeral. On the Santos it sits in the VII. Copies omit it or print it at the wrong size.
  • Crown. The cabochon is blue spinel or sapphire. Copies use glass, which scratches.

Three checks that cost nothing

  1. Price. A steel Santos de Cartier sells new in the high four figures. A listing at $200 is not a Cartier.
  2. Serial match. The number on the warranty card must match the caseback engraving.
  3. Engraving quality. Caseback text is laser etched, with sharp edges under 10x magnification. Acid etch leaves ragged edges.
