A replica Blancpain automatic is a watch built by a third-party factory in China that copies a Blancpain model and runs on a self-winding mechanical movement. Blancpain does not make it. The watch carries the Blancpain name and logo without a license from Blancpain or the Swatch Group.
The word automatic describes the movement. A rotor turns with wrist motion and winds the mainspring. Genuine Blancpain automatic calibers include the 1315 (120-hour power reserve, silicon balance spring) and the 1150. Replica versions use other movements.
What is inside the replicas
- Miyota 9015 (Japan): 24 jewels, 28,800 vph, about 42 hours of reserve. Common in mid-tier copies.
- Seagull and Hangzhou clones of the ETA 2824-2: 28,800 vph, about 38 hours of reserve.
- Decorated movements: plates engraved and rotors stamped to look like a Blancpain 1315. The finish is cosmetic and the gear train is not a 1315.
Price bands in the Chinese replica market run from about $90 to $600. Sellers above that range claim Swiss parts. Ask for movement photos. A copy with a real 120-hour power reserve at replica prices is not documented.
Which Blancpain models get copied
The Fifty Fathoms is the most copied model. The 1953 original was a dive watch made for the French Navy. Common replica case sizes are 45 mm for the Fifty Fathoms and 43 mm for the Bathyscaphe. Other copies include the Villeret complete calendar (caliber 6654) and the Leman.
