Short answer
A replica Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M is a copy of the Omega Aqua Terra, sold in 38 mm and 41 mm case sizes. Chinese sellers list them from $80 to $600. The genuine watch has 150 m water resistance and a Master Chronometer movement. Replicas copy the outside. They do not carry METAS certification, and no independent lab tests their water resistance.
Genuine specifications
These are the numbers a replica is compared against.
- Case: 41 mm wide, 13.2 mm thick, 20 mm lug width
- Water resistance: 150 m, screw-down crown, sapphire caseback
- Movement: calibre 8900, co-axial escapement, silicon balance spring, 60-hour power reserve, 25,200 vph, 39 jewels
- Magnetic resistance: 15,000 gauss
- Crystal: sapphire, front and back, antireflective coating on both faces
- Weight on steel bracelet: about 150 g
The 38 mm version uses calibre 8800 with a 55-hour reserve.
Replica grades and listed prices
- Low grade: $80 to $150. Quartz or basic automatic, printed dial, hollow end links, case thickness often 2 mm over spec.
- Mid grade: $200 to $350. Miyota 9015 or A2824 movement, applied markers, solid end links, sapphire crystal on some units.
- Top grade: $400 to $600. Decorated clone 8900, better case finishing, engraved caseback, tighter bracelet fit.
Sellers post thickness and weight. Ask for both before payment. A 41 mm replica that weighs 110 g has a hollow bracelet and a thin case.
Movement facts
The genuine 8900 has a co-axial escapement and a silicon balance spring. Most replicas use a Miyota 9015, a Seagull or Hangzhou clone, or a decorated A2824. None use a true co-axial escapement. The decorated plate covers a standard balance. Date changes are instant on the genuine. On many replicas the date flips over 20 to 40 minutes.
Ask for a timegrapher photo. Rate between -10 and +15 seconds per day is normal for these movements. Amplitude under 250 degrees on a fresh watch points to a dry or worn movement.
Inspection list
- Dial text: font weight, spacing, and the position of the logo
- Date window: frame thickness, alignment, font of the numerals
- Hands: length against the minute track, lume fill level
- Case: brushing direction on the lugs, polished bevel width
- Caseback: engraving depth, seam between the caseback and the case
- Bracelet: end link fit, taper from 20 mm to 18 mm, clasp stamp
- Crown: thread count, logo engraving, seal condition
Water resistance
A replica rated 150 m has not been pressure tested. Gaskets on low grade units are thin, and crown threads are cut in fewer passes. A watchmaker can pressure test a replica for $20 to $40. Do not swim with one before that test.
Legal status in the US
Sale of counterfeit watches is trademark counterfeiting under 18 U.S.C. 2320. US Customs and Border Protection can seize shipments under 19 CFR 133. Personal import of a counterfeit watch carries seizure risk. Buying one is not the same charge as selling one, but the item can be taken at the border with no refund.
